Crafting a Nontraditional Autumn Wreath Using the Bubble Method

Hey there, crafty friends! Today, we’re about to embark on a fun adventure into the world of wreath-making with a technique that’s both new to me and a classic in the crafting world—the Bubble Method. Get ready to pop, lock, and bubble up your autumn décor! For a step-by-step visual guide, check out my YouTube video here!

Materials You’ll Need

Grab these goodies and let’s get rolling:

  • 14-inch Wire Wreath Base – A dollar store find that’s as versatile as it is budget-friendly.
  • 6-inch Deco Mesh – We’re talking purple, white, and pink. Two rolls of each color, because who doesn’t love options?
  • 2.5-inch Wired Ribbon – I swapped out pink for white. Decisions, decisions!
  • Autumn Sign – Glittery and fabulous, because why should only the leaves get to sparkle?
  • Pipe Cleaners – Your new best friends for securing everything.
  • Tools – Glue gun, scissors, ruler, and toothpicks. Think of them as your crafting sidekicks.

Creating the Deco Mesh Base

Let’s dive into the Bubble Method—a technique that’s been around longer than your grandma’s secret cookie recipe but is new to me. I have to say, I was really surprised by how simple & fast the bubble method is. It really made making this wreath a much faster process.

First, let’s crunch some Deco Mesh Math: with a 14-inch wreath base split into six sections, we’re going to make five bubbles per section. That’s two rolls of each color—six rolls in total. Math never looked so good!

Now, what on earth is a deco mesh bubble, you ask? Imagine your deco mesh as a toilet paper roll. It should roll over, not under. Stack your deco mesh, scrunch it an inch from the end, and secure it with a pipe cleaner. Voilà, bubble magic!

To form a bubble, measure 8 inches from where you secured the mesh, scrunch, and secure. Repeat all the way around the wreath — bubbles galore!

You can go wild with the number of bubbles—seven, eight, or as many as your heart desires. I went with five for a full but not too stuffed look.

Separating the Deco Mesh Bubbles

Time to show off all three fabulous colors! Gently separate the bubbles to reveal the stunning mix of purple, pink, and white. No wire frame should be peeking through—this wreath is all about fluff and fabulousness.

Just look at that hint of pink & highlight of white peeking through those pretty purple bubbles. So vibrant & colourful!

Adding the Ribbon and Sign

Next up: ribbons! We’re using taupe and white wired ribbons. Cut 12 pieces of each color to 11 inches, dovetail the ends (because why not add a bit of flair?), and crisscross them to create fabulous bundles.

Add these bundles evenly around your wreath, secure them with pipe cleaners, and trim the excess.

Now, the sign—remove the existing string and add hot glue to the top, bottom, and sides for extra security. Make the glue is super dry before moving on to attaching the sign to the base. Actually, it isn’t unusal for me to attach my pipe cleaners to signs before I do anything else including making the base wreath. That way I know my glue is extra dry by the time I start attaching the sign.

Final Touches

Cover up any unsightly holes on the sign with strategically placed ribbon, use a dot of glue to secure ribbon over the holes. Then reattach that jute cord & use it to hang your pretty wreath. Your wreath is now ready to dazzle!

The Finished Wreath

So, what’s the verdict? I’m head over heels for this wreath! Despite my initial purple overload fears, the ribbon accents brought it all together. I’m so excited to hang this beauty on my front door.
